The story of the Tuono started a couple of years ago when I was trying the brand new GR-51 of a student of mine;
I was so impressed by the sound of this tuba that I asked Gerhard Meinl if there was the possibility to create a CC version of that tuba; he answered that there was already the idea to develop a new Melton rotary CC Tuba...and so we began.
After several attempts the first prototype was what you see in the picture below:
La storia della Tuono cominciò un paio di anni fa, quando stavo provando la GR-51 che un mio allievo aveva appena comprato;
mi piaceva così tanto il suono di quello strumento che chiesi a Gerhard Meinl se ci fosse la possibilità di creare una versione in Do di quella tuba; mi rispose che c'era già l'idea di sviluppare una nuova Melton in Do a cilindri...e così cominciammo.
Dopo diversi tentativi il primo prototipo fu quello che vedete nella foto qui sotto
From this point we tried to focus more on the response of the instrument in all registers.
I changed three different leadpipes, and at the end I chose the one more conical: smaller at the beginning very large at the end.
We changed also the design of the 5th valve slide (I wanted the more open design as possible) and fitted a bigger valve section.
A questo punto abbiamo cominciato a focalizzarci molto sulla facilità di emissione in tutti i registri.
Ho cambiato tre cannelli diversi, ed alla fine ho scelto quello più conico: più piccolo all'inizio e molto largo alla fine.
Ho fatto cambiare il disegno della pompa del 5° cilindro (la volevo più aperta possibile).
E' stato montato inoltre un set di cilindri più grande.

After the first test we were already in the right way.

The first public appearance was at the I.T.E.C. in Tucson on May 2010

Then we met at the Melton factory in Geretsried (Germany) from 4th to 6th October 2010 for the very last test.

After playing with the Tuono for one day, I decided to try with the leadpipe detached from the bell and....wow!!! the sound has exploded.
Dopo aver suonato la Tuono per un giorno, ho deciso di provare a far staccare il cannello dalla campana e....wow!!! il suono è esploso.
